VPN (Virtual Private Network) | What is VPN | Types of VPN

VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a network that allows users to connect their private network from internet cloud. Suppose if you are out of your private network with a laptop, in this situation VPN helps with a connectivity from your network to your private network.

If you are on a meeting outside from your office and you want to connect with your office network at that time VPN is the only way to connect.

VPN creates an encrypted connection between internet and the private network, all the packets moves from source to destination in encrypted format. Thus, the VPN is used to keep user data secure and private.

Types of VPN :-

There are Two basic types of VPN (Virtual Private Network) as below.

1. Remote Access VPN (Virtual Private Network)

       Remote Access VPN is used to connect with the private network to access services, application and other resources remotely.

Remote access VPN is used by home users as well as by business users.

A remote-access VPN connection allows an individual user to connect to a private business network from a remote location using a laptop or desktop computer connected to the Internet

Remote access VPN is configured with some password and user authentication to access it securely. Only the permitted users can access the private network using remote access VPN.

2. Site to Site VPN (Virtual Private Network)

When a company allows some applications access to another company that time site to site VPN configuration is used by both of the companies. Site to site VPN is also called as router to router VPN.

In Site to site VPN one router is connected with its peer router using some encryptions. All data moves in an encryption format using a VPN tunnel. When site to site VPN is configured source can access the allowed applications or resources allowed behind the remote router.

Both of the routers creates a VPN tunnel so that the packets can move securely from source to destination.
