What is SPF Records | How to Add SPF Record in DNS | SPF Records


Sender Policy Framework (SPF)

An SPF record is a TXT record that is part of a domain's DNS zone file. SPF Record is a type of record which is used to identify the permitted mail server for sending emails on behalf of your domain. It is used to identify or to prevent spammer can send email on behalf of your mail server, its identify the spammers and prevent that.

Suppose you have a domain test.com and you are using godaddy mail server with id user@test.com. When you send an email to other email address associated with another mail server such as gmail. When gmail receive email from user@test.com which is using godaddy email hosting service can check for spf record if gmail mail server didn't find the spf record for sending mail server it will reject the message.


How to create SPF record and Configure it in DNS

An SPF record is a TXT record that is part of a domain's DNS zone file. 

Open your domain control center and click on Domain and then DNS.


Now click on Add and fill out the following fields with you spf record value.





Click on Save and your spf record will be added.

You can also use this SPF wizard: http://spfwizard.com/ in order to create an SPF record for your server otherwise if you are using email hosting service provide you can get their SPF record on their websites.


How to check SPF record added

To check SPF record added or not use the below command.

Open Command Prompt

C:\Users\AayushKamboj>nslookup
Default Server:  google-public-dns-a.google.com
Address:  8.8.8.8
> set q=txt
> google.com
Server:  google-public-dns-a.google.com
Address:  8.8.8.8
Non-authoritative answer:
google.com      text =
        "v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all"
